There are confirmed cases of measles in Alberta. Measles is a very serious illness and is highly contagious.
The College of Chiropractors of Alberta (CCOA) requires all chiropractors to immediately read and diligently follow:
CCOA reminds chiropractors:
Immunology, communicable disease prevention and vaccination are not in the scope of practice of a chiropractor. Please aware of the following key points:
- Chiropractors must not directly or indirectly imply lack of support for any public health measures or guidance related to communicable disease prevention or vaccination.
- Chiropractors must not communicate directly or indirectly that chiropractic care can “boost” immune systems or provide protection against, or treatment for, communicable diseases.
- Alleged breaches of the Professional Communication Directive or the Vaccination and Immunization Practice Policy will be referred immediately to the CCOA complaints director.
Refer patients with measles inquiries to the appropriate health professionals or to public health clinics.
- If a patient asks about vaccination, or protecting themselves against any communicable disease, chiropractors must refer them to a health professional who has communicable disease prevention and vaccination in their scope of practice (such as physicians or nurses) or to public health clinics.
Please stay informed with the latest updates, resources and recommendations for health professionals from AHS.
Thank you for your cooperation in helping to ensure patient safety, the protection of the health of Albertans and public trust in the profession of chiropractic.
